Kessy, Ross Win Silver in Finland

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Aug. 22, 2009) – The USA Volleyball beach team of Jen Kessy and April Ross took the silver medal on Saturday at the PAF Open in Mariehamn, Finland, part of the SWATCH FIVB World Tour.

Brazil’s top-ranked Julia Felisberta Silva and Larissa Francaa took a 21-15, 28-26 win in 46 minutes over second-seeded  Kessy (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) and Ross (Costa Mesa, Calif.), seeded second in the event.

It was the 10th meeting between the two teams and the second since the 2009 SWATCH FIVB World Championship where Kessy and Ross posted a 30-28, 23-21 victory to capture the gold medal. 

Kessy and Ross, who were playing their third Brazilian team in the US$380,000 PAF Open, split $21,000 for placing second.  In their last 11 SWATCH FIVB World Tour appearances, the Americans have placed on top of the podium four times, competed in eight finals with nine total medals to their credit.

Kessy and Ross are schedule to compete again on Aug. 24-29 at the SWATCH FIVB World Tour even in The Hague, Netherlands. Also scheduled to compete in the women’s bracket are Angie Akers (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and Tyra Turner (Fort Meyers Beach, Fla.).
