COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Aug. 10, 2009) - Teams from Washington, Oregon and British Columbia converged on Seaside, Ore., for the USA Beach Volleyball Pacific Open held on Aug. 7-8.
The tournament is part of the USA Beach Volleyball Junior Tour, a series of events held around the country. Ninety-six teams participated in the Oregon tournament.
Kylah Seres (Port Moody, B.C.) and Jaqueline Caverly (Coquitlam, B.C.) took first place in the U-18 Girls Division with a win over Mona Goudarziam (Albany, Ore.) and Layleigh Welchel (McMinnville, Ore.). Lisa Chulich (Olympia, Wash.) and Nina Holbrooks (Olympia, Wash.) took the bronze medal.
In the U-16 Girls Division Sam Moore (Newport, Ore.) and Tia Withers (Beaverton, Ore.) took top honors with a win over Haley Nice (Seaside, Ore.) and Keirsten Mend (Naramata, B.C.) who settled for silver. Alex Bassett (Olympia, Wash.) and Jennifer Liedes (Olympia, Wash.) took third place.
Hanna Hernandez (Olympia, Wash.) and Jacey Watson (Olympia, Wash.) won the U-14 Girls Division. They defeated Jensyn McCoy (Turnwater, Wash.) and Karlee Jo Sampson (Turnwater, Wash.). The team of Emma and Sophie Peel (Washougal, Wash.) came in third.
On the boys' side, Victor Tsukanov (Greshan, Ore.) and Alex Shindyapin (Portland, Ore.) won the U-18 Boys Division. Sean Smallwood (Renton, Wash.) and Christian Roy (Renton, Wash.) took top honors in the U-16 Boys Division, and Matthew MacVicar and Tyler Little won the U-14 Boys Division.
Pro beach volleyball player Bryan Lewis presented the winners with their medals.
The final 2009 tour event will be the USA Beach Junior Tour Championships on Aug. 16 in Huntington Calif.
