COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 26, 2009) – Top-seeded Phil Dalhausser (Ormond Beach, Fla.) and Todd Rogers (Santa Barbara, Calif.) put up a fight, but ended up losing to Brazil’s eighth-seeded Marcio Araujo and Fabio Magalhaes 1-2 (21-19, 19- 21, 11-15) in 66 minutes in the bronze medal match of the season-opening event on the 2009 SWATCH FIVB World Tour.

Marcio and Fabio were the team that Dalhausser and Rogers defeated to win the gold medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. However, the U.S. team lost twice to the Brazilians at the US$380,000 Banco do Brasil presents the KIA Open in Brasilia.

Three teams from host Brazil collected all the men’s medals. The all-Brazilian gold medal match was won by third-seeded Emanuel Rego and Ricardo Santos, 2-0 (22-20, 21-19).

En route to sharing the $30,000 first-place prize with six-straight SWATCH FIVB World Tour wins the past four days, Emanuel and Ricardo defeated fourth-seeded Alison Cerutti and Harley Marques in 56 minutes.

It was the first international meeting between the two teams as Alison and Harley had won the previous two matches on the Brazilian domestic tour this season. With the match tied 12-12 in the second set, Harley injured the big toe on his left foot that forced a medical time out.  Emanuel and Ricardo scored three-straight points to take command en route to winning the match.
