COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Sept. 3, 2008) – Just because Labor Day is past doesn’t mean summer is over. There is still more beach volleyball to be played.

USA Volleyball and the Elevation Group have announced that registration is open for the 2008 U.S. Open of Beach Volleyball, presented by Corona Extra, on Sept. 26-28 on East Beach in Santa Barbara, Calif.

The event is open to all beach volleyball teams. Categories include men’s two-person, women’s two-person, coed two-person and coed four-person. There are two divisions of masters’ categories for both men and women with one division for those players 37 and older and a second for those 45 and older.

Winning teams in the men’s open and women’s open divisions receive $2,400. Coed open winners receive $1,000. Other cash and non-cash prizes are also available.

The U.S. Open of Beach Volleyball was created with the specific purpose of providing an opportunity for adult players to pursue a crowning achievement on a national stage.

Three-time Olympic gold medalist Karch Kiraly is spearheading the development of the U.S. Open. He is working with USA Volleyball and the Elevation Group, a sports and entertainment marketing firm managed by former IMG and ClearChannel/Live Nation executives, to organize a professional and successful program.

Registration is $60-$100, depending on the division. All teams can register online for the tournament up to the online registration deadline of midnight PDT, on Sept. 24 and be eligible to play for cash and other prizes. Walk-up registration for any team not registered at this time may enter on-site beginning Sept. 26 at 7:30 a.m. at the on-site registration tent.

Access to the event will be based on space available. (Note: any open team that receives entry on-site will not receive a preferential seeding into the draw). All open teams must be prepared to play on Sept. 26 at 9 a.m. sharp when teams will be called on the courts for the first round.
