COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Nov. 12, 2008)
- With a win in the qualification tournament on Wednesday, Americans Stacy Rouwenhorst (Bellflower, Calif.) and Whitney Pavlik (Laguna Beach, Calif.) advanced to the main draw of the SWATCH FIVB Beach World Tour event in Sanya, China. Main draw action kicks off on Thursday.

Rouwenhorst and Pavlik, playing in their first-ever FIVB World Tour event, breezed to victory in the opener, defeating China's Chunmei Huang and Jingxian Situ, 21-11, 21-13, in just 29 minutes.

The win elevates Rouwenhorst and Pavlik into the main draw as the last seed out of 32 teams, which means the duo will tangle with the tournament's No. 1 seed in Round 1. That honor goes to fellow Americans Jen Boss (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) and April Ross (Costa Mesa, Calif.), fresh off a gold medal performance at last week's tournament in Thailand.

The all-American matchup will open the slate of first-round contests on Thursday, which also features two more U.S. women's teams. Nicole Branagh (Orinda, Calif.) and Tyra Turner (Fort Myers Beach, Fla.) earned the No. 2 seed in the main draw after finishing second to Boss and Ross last week in Thailand, and the Americans kick off their tournament with a first-round match against Manokharan Iswari and Luk Teng Kee of Macedonia, seeded 31st. Rounding out the American crew, Lauren Fendrick (Carlsbad, Calif.) and Ashley Ivy (Arlington, Texas), the fifth seeds, are scheduled to meet Xitlali Herrera and Rosario Reyes of Mexico, seeded 28th.

Two rounds of play are scheduled for Thursday in Sanya with the tournament to continue until Sunday's final.
