COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Nov. 6, 2008)
- Three out of four U.S. women's beach volleyball teams remain undefeated at the SWATCH FIVB World Tour event in Phuket, Thailand after two rounds of competition on Thursday at Karon Beach.

Jen Boss (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) and April Ross (Costa Mesa, Calif.), seeded second, kicked off their play in Thailand with a first-round victory over fellow Americans Gretchen Duffner (Redondo Beach, Calif.) and Alicia Zamparelli (Glendale, Calif.), 21-10, 21-12. Things weren't quite as easy in Round 2 however, as Boss and Ross needed three sets to defeat twin sisters Erika and Emilia Nystrom of Finland, 18-21, 21-13, 15-11.

The new tandem of Nicole Branagh (Orinda, Calif.) and Tyra Turner (Fort Myers Beach, Fla.) was impressive in its first tournament, sweeping a pair of matches on Thursday. Branagh and Turner knocked off Mexico's Xitlali Herrera and Rosario Reyes, 21-15, 21-8, in the first round before besting Sara Montagnolli and Barbara Hansel of Austria, 21-14, 22-20, in Round 2.

The fifth-seeded pair of Lauren Fendrick (Carlsbad, Calif.) and Ashley Ivy (Arlington, Texas) was also up to the task, as the Americans made quick work of Norway's Ragnhild Aas and Siri Bjørkesett, winning 21-4, 21-11, in just 29 minutes. Fendrick and Ivy capped off their day with 21-16, 21-12 victory over China's Jie Wang and Man Zuo to advance to Friday's third round.

After falling in the first round to Boss and Ross, Duffner and Zamparelli dropped a tough three-setter to Karin Lundqvist and Angelica Ljungquist of Sweden, 20-22, 21-14, 15-10, and finished the tournament ranked 25th. Duffner and Zamparelli were victorious in Wednesday's qualification draw, allowing them to compete in the main draw.

Eight teams remain undefeated entering Friday's third round, highlighted by the three American squads. Boss and Ross will tangle with Doris and Stefanie Schwaiger of Austria on Friday, Branagh and Turner will meet Cristine Saka and Andrezza Rtvelo of Georgia and Fendrick and Ivy will face Tamsin Barnett and Becchara Palmer of Australia.
