ANAHEIM, Calif. (March 4, 2008) - USA Volleyball has submitted its U.S. Men's National Team staff list to the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. The staff, pending final approval from the USOC, will consist of Hugh McCutcheon (Christchurch, New Zealand) as the head coach, Ron Larsen (Lafayette, Calif.) as the first assistant coach, John Speraw (Irvine, Calif.) as the second assistant coach, Marv Dunphy (Malibu, Calif.) as the consultant coach, Jamie Morrison (Dana Point, Calif.) as the videotape and statistical scout and Rob Browning (Newport Beach, Calif.) as the team leader. Aaron Brock (Storm Lake, Iowa), the team's athletic trainer, has also been nominated to go to Beijing as part of the U.S. Olympic Committee's medical staff.
The U.S. Men's National Team qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games by winning the NORCECA Men's Olympic Qualifying Championship on Jan. 6-11 in Puerto Rico. McCutcheon is in his fourth year as head coach of the U.S. Men's Team and has a record of 78-28 with the team. He served as an assistant coach for the team at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens under Head Coach Doug Beal.
Larsen, in his fourth year as assistant coach, will be making his first trip to the Olympic Games. Larsen served as head coach for the U.S. Men's Team that won the silver medal at the Pan American Games.
Speraw is in his second year with the U.S. Men's Team and is also the head coach for the men's volleyball team at UC Irvine, which won the 2007 NCAA National Championship.
Dunphy, the head coach of the Pepperdine men's volleyball team, was the head coach of the 1988 U.S. Men's Team that won a gold medal in Seoul, South Korea. He also served as the U.S. Men's consultant coach at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. Dunphy has won four NCAA national titles in his 24 seasons as the head coach for Pepperdine.
Morrison is in his fourth season as an assistant coach and technical coordinator with the men's team. His main responsibilities include breakdown of video and statistics and the implementation of those into game plans and game-time decisions.
Browning, who is head coach of the women's volleyball team at St. Mary's College of California, was an assistant for the U.S. Men's National Team at the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games. He also served as team leader for the U.S. Men's Team at the NORCECA Olympic Qualifying tournament.
Brock was a member of the USOC medical staff at the 2004 Summer Games in Athens where he worked with the water polo team.
The Olympic Games in Beijing will take place Aug. 8-24. Prior to that, the U.S. Men will be participating in the 2008 FIVB World League. They will play matches in Hoffman Estates, Ill. (June 20-21) , Green Bay, Wis. (June 27-28) and Bloomington, Ill. (July 11-12) .
