U.S. Men Shut Out Finland for Second World League Victory

ANAHEIM, Calif. (June 14, 2008) - The U.S. Men's National Volleyball Team had an easy time of it on Saturday as it defeated Finland 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-16) in just over an hour in an FIVB World League match played in Espoo, Finland.

The U.S. Men improved their World League record to 2-0 and took the lead in Pool C, ahead of Bulgaria with a 1-0 record. Bulgaria defeated visiting Spain on Saturday, 33-31, 25-19, 25-17.

Team USA will return to the United States and play Bulgaria on June 20-21 in Hoffman Estates, Ill.

Reid Priddy (Richmond, Va.) unofficially led the U.S. Men on Saturday with 19 points on 14 kills, a match-high four blocks and one ace. Clay Stanley (Honolulu, Hawai'i) added 11 points on nine kills, one block and one ace.  Riley Salmon (League City, Texas) scored nine points on seven kills and two aces.

"Our consistency was already good yesterday and today our team improved from that," said U.S. Head Coach Hugh McCutcheon (Christchurch, New Zealand). "We had better execution and a better performance."

The U.S. Men converted 67 percent of their kill attempts as compared to 48 percent for Finland. Team USA was 69 percent "excellent" on serve receptions and had nine blocks as compared to four for Finland.

Among other U.S. players, David Lee (Alpine, Calif.) scored seven points on five kills, one block and one ace. Ryan Millar (Palmdale, Calif.) had three points on two kills and one block. Delano Thomas (Sacramento, Calif.) scored two points on a kill and an ace. Setter Kevin Hansen (Newport Beach, Calif.) scored two points on two blocks.

Libero Rich Lambourne (Tustin, Calif.) was 83 percent "excellent" on 12 serve receptions and had three digs.

McCutcheon started Priddy and Salmon at outside hitter, Millar and Lee at middle blocker, Stanley at opposite, Hansen at setter and Lambourne at libero.

Thomas, Scott Touzinsky (St. Louis, Mo.) and Phil Eatherton (Glencoe, Mo.) played as substitutes.
