strong>COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 27, 2008) – The USA Volleyball High Performance Volleyball Championships concluded Sunday as medalists in the Girls’ Youth National and Girls’ Youth Select Division brackets were determined at the Tucson Convention Center in Tucson, Ariz.
The Badger Region High Performance team won the gold medal in the Girls’ National Youth Division by defeating Iowa Region High Performance Youth 25-15, 25-18, 25-21 in the championship match. Badger defeated Oklahoma Region High Performance 24-26, 26-24, 28-26, 22-25, 15-12 in a tightly contested semifinal match. Oklahoma Region came back to win its own five-set match over Intermountain Region High Performance 25-23, 17-25, 25-20, 20-25, 15-11 in the bronze-medal match.

Southern California Region Red won the Girls’ National Select Division title with a 25-23, 25-19, 25-20 victory over Iowa Region High Performance Select in the gold-medal match. Southern California Region swept Ohio Valley Region 26-24, 25-23, 25-9 in the semifinals to reach the championship match. Aloha Region High Performance, which lost 25-19, 25-20, 25-15 to Iowa Region in the semifinals, bounced back to win the bronze medal with a 22-25, 28-26, 21-25, 25-16, 15-11 victory over Ohio Valley Region.

The USA Volleyball High Performance Championships event, which started July 23, fielded 83 teams playing in six brackets on 15 courts at the Tucson Convention Center. In finals settled yesterday, USA Junior White won the Women’s International Division title, Arizona Region High Performance won the Girls’ International Youth championship, USA Youth White took home gold in the Boys’ International Youth Division and Aloha Region B earned the top spot in the Boys’ National Youth/Select Division.
USA Volleyball fielded 21 teams from its High Performance pipeline, including six in the Women’s International Junior Division, six in the Girls’ International Division, five in the Boys’ International Youth Division and four in the Boys’ National Youth/Select Division.
Out of the 40 USA Volleyball Regions, 19 regions will be represented at the 2008 USA Volleyball High Performance Championships. The Aloha Region and Northern California Region have placed five teams in the event, while Carolina Region, Florida Region and Southern California Region all have four teams competing. Host Arizona Region has three teams among the field, as does Gulf Coast Region, Iowa Region and Ohio Valley Region. Other regions competing in the event are Badger Region, Chesapeake Region, Delta Region, Garden Empire Region, Intermountain Region, Iroquois Empire Region, Lakeshore Region, Oklahoma Region, Puget Sound Region and Sun Country Region.
In addition, Chile, Canada, Peru and Puerto Rico have sent a total of 12 teams to compete in the USA High Performance Championships. Puerto Rico has a total of six teams entered.
The USA High Performance Volleyball Championships are being hosted locally by Metropolitan Tucson Convention and Visitors Bureau, Joseph Volleyball Camps, Inc., and the Arizona Region.
