DALLAS, TEXAS (July 5, 2008) – The 29th USA Junior Olympic Girls’ Volleyball Championships, hosted by USA Volleyball at the Dallas Convention Center, concluded Saturday with the crowning of the Open, National and American Division winners for the 14-year-old brackets on the final day of the 10-day event.

Mizuno Long Beach 14R (Redondo Beach, Calif.) captured the 14 Open Division title with a 13-25, 27-25, 15-10 victory over Borinquen Coqui 14-1 (San Juan, Puerto Rico) in the championship match. Mizuno Long Beach 14R, which was 10-0 entering the title match, defeated Woodlands Stars – 14G (The Woodlands, Texas) 25-12, 25-17 in the quarterfinals and Vision 14 Gold (Los Gatos, Calif.) 16-25, 25-13, 15-7 in the semifinals. Borinquen Coqui 14-1 topped Asics MAVS (Overland Park, Kan.) 14-1 25-17, 19-25, 17-15 in the quarterfinals and A5 Mizuno 141 Suzanne (Roswell, Ga.) 25-19, 25-15 in the semifinals.

Maunalani 14-Third Degree (Honolulu, Hawai’i) defeated TVC 14-1 (Sylvania, Ohio) 25-17, 27-25 in the 14 National Division championship match. Maunalani 14-Third Degree defeated Vision 14 Blue (Los Gatos, Calif.) 26-24, 25-16 in the quarterfinals and ClubOne 14 Gold (Greeley, Colo.) 25-20, 24-26, 15-12 in the semifinals. TVC 14-1 topped Colorado Juniors 14Rey (Colorado Springs, Colo.) 25-19, 22-25, 15-10 in the quarterfinals and Club West 14 Elite (La Verne, Calif.) 25-20, 25-16 in the semifinals.

AZ Sky 14-Black (Phoenix, Ariz.) swept C4 Crush (Aviston, Ill.) 14 25-16, 25-22 in the gold-medal match to earn the 14 American Division championship. AZ Sky 14-Black, which went undefeated in the tournament, reached the championship match by defeating Power 14-1 (Shawnee, Kan.) 25-21, 25-21 in the semifinals and Mizuno M1 141 (Minnetonka, Minn.) 25-12, 25-19 in the quarterfinals. C4 Crush 14 advanced to the title match by defeating Team Saint Louis (St. Charles, Mo.) 141 22-25, 25-20, 15-8 in the quarterfinals and Premier 14 Mizuno Ed (Fairview, Texas) 25-20, 14-25, 15-13 in the semifinals.

This year’s USA Junior Olympic Girls’ Volleyball Championships includes 9,500 athletes from 788 teams. The tournament will crown 19 champions in age divisions ranging from 12-18. Open Division titles are disputed for the 14s, 15s, 16s, 17s and 18s, while National Division and Open Division contests championships for all seven age groups.

The USA Junior Olympic Girls’ Volleyball Championships is estimated to add $15.5 million to the Dallas economy. With an anticipated total attendance of 40,000 from participants, coaches and fans, the event has set record hotel bookings. The 10-day event will be at the Dallas Convention Center and the tournament will be played in the nation’s largest column-free exhibit hall. A total of 48 volleyball courts occupy one third of the Dallas Convention, the nation’s largest column-free exhibit hall.
