Event Information

Teams from five top universities sponsoring NCAA sand volleyball teams are set to participate in the Fourth Annual USA Volleyball Beach Collegiate Challenge on April 14-15 at Hermosa Beach, Calif.

Teams from the University of Southern California, Pepperdine, Loyola Marymount, Long Beach State, and Hawaii are scheduled to compete in the USAV Collegiate Challenge, which will be the final competition determining which school(s) will attend the team competition at the inaugural AVCA Collegiate Sand Volleyball National Championship on April 27-29 in Gulf Shores, Fla.

“USAV is honored to have our annual Collegiate Challenge be the final and deciding competition heading into the inaugural National Championships,” said Ali Wood Lamberson, USA Volleyball director of beach programs. “This will be a marquee event in the annual NCAA season. It is exciting to see so many of our former and current USAV Beach high performance athletes be a part of this new venture.”

The USAV Beach Collegiate Challenge, which will take place at the Hermosa Beach Pier, will consist of two separate competition phases.

Saturday’s competition will begin at 8 a.m. and will consist of a series of team-against-team dual competitions, where one school’s five pairs will play one match against another’s five pairs. This will count toward a school’s win-loss record heading into the inaugural AVCA Collegiate National Championship.

Sunday’s action will start at 9 a.m. and will consist of a flighted pairs competition with gold and silver divisions (the top 16 teams will compete in the gold division). Pairs will get ranking points based on their finish that will help them qualify for the pair competition of the AVCA Collegiate Sand Volleyball National Championships.

USAV has secured the services of former AVP National Tournament Director Matt Gage to act as competition director for the USAV Collegiate Challenge. He will also serve in that role at the AVCA National Championships.
