Portland, OR - Six handball teams from throughout the Pacific Northwest will gather Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Portland Community College’s Sylvania campus for the first annual Cascadian Tournament.  Handball clubs from Seattle, WA, Vancouver, BC and Oregon State University in Corvallis, OR, will clash at the Sylvania campus gymnasium from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The Portland Sasquatch handball club will organize and participate in the tournament, and will round out the field with local teams from Portland State University and Portland Community College.
Though relatively unknown in the US, team handball has been part of the regular Summer Olympic program since 1972.  Popular the world over, the sport’s international roots will be on display at the Cascadian Tournament as players hailing from Europe, the Middle East and Asia compete alongside Americans and Canadians to bring pride to their city and school clubs.
With no handball tournaments occurring within 500 miles of Portland, the Sasquatch saw an opportunity to bring the region’s teams together and strengthen their bonds through competition.  In the spirit of growing the sport, the Cascadian Tournament will be free to attend for all spectators.
