USATH Announces Regional Coaching System

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - After several months of preparations and internal consultations between USA Team Handball staff and club coaches, USA Team Handball has launched the Regional Coaching System, an initiative aimed to build sustained National Team Athlete and Coaching Development Pipeline (NTACDP). 

Under this initiative, USATH has divided the country into four regions: North, South, East and West. Each region will have two pairs of appointed Regional Coaches, one pair per gender group. The long-term plan envisions geographical subdivisions to reach eight regions. Please note: our domestic five region competition structure remains unchanged.

Under guidance of the USATH staff, those regional coaches will: (a) form regional Select Teams that would participate in an annual USATH sanctioned event to evaluate the talented young American athletes in a competition setting who will be further evaluated for nominations to Junior and Youth National teams; (b) organize quarterly regional development enhancement camps for most promising players per region; (c) provide on-going guidance for and communication with those regional prospects; (d) recruit top tier athletes to those regional cooperatives and National Residency Program based on the USATH methodological guidelines and desirable player's model; (e) participate in on-going mentorship program to prepare for taking progressively more coaching responsibilities for youth, junior and ultimately senior teams.

The search continues to fill the vacant slots with dedicated coaches. Interested professionals should refer to this Regional Coach document for detailed job description, requirements, and terms and conditions. Please note that currently all positions are non-salaried one year renewable voluntary appointments. Nominees without formal USATH certification will be required to become certified on L1 level within six months of the appointment and actively participate in monthly webinars informing overarching principles that will guide the program, communication and support network, recruiting, screening, training, and retaining model as well as training best practices.
