USA Falls to Cuba in Opening Match
The USA took on Cuba today at 4:00pm CST in Mexico City as a part of the Senior Men NORCA Tournament. USA struggled the first half adjusting to the pace of the game and appeared to be very flatfooted, unable to generate any offense. The defense hung tight and anchored the team to half time. USA goalie Gabe Goodreau, in his first National Team start, defended the goal well. He was 2 of 2 shutting out Cuba on penalty shots. However that was not enough and Cuba took a comfortable lead of 13-6 after 30 minutes.
In the second half the team came out aggressive on defensive and maintained their intensity throughout the half giving only 8 goals to Cuba. Vladimir Bicvic and Jordan Fithian control the middle of the court. While the defensive sparked the team, the offense was too sloppy as showed by their 12 turnovers given to Cuba. Cuba easily kept the lead and won 21-15. Team USA returns to action tomorrow February 27th against Puerto Rico at 4 pm CST. This is a critical game for team USA as they seek their first win and a birth to the Pan American Championships. The game will be streamed live on www.ustream.com/handball2013
