The tournament promises to deliver fast-paced and down-to-the-wire competition with all nine participating teams  - Boston, Carolina, Carolina Blue, Chicago, Levi A, Levi B, NYC, West Point Black, West Point Gold - showcasing some of the top talent in women's team handball.

The annual tournament is named in honor of Second Lieutenant Laura Walker, a 2003 graduate of West Point, who was killed in action while deployed in Afghanistan in 2005.

Walker was born into a military family on June 16, 1981. After attending ten different schools - a result of living in 18 cities and three countries - Walker enrolled in the United States Military Academy at West Point. While excelling in leadership positions such as Cadet 1SG and CSM, she served a summer internship with the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee, played for the United States Junior Women's Handball Team in the Pan American Games, and was team captain of the West Point Women's Handball Team, leading them to a national college championship. Although she was offered the opportunity to pursue a position with the Olympic handball team, Walker chose to serve with soldiers.

Walker was killed in action on August 18, 2005 in Delak, Afghanistan. Walker proudly wore the 4th Infantry Division combat patch on her right shoulder, a distinction she shared with both of her grandfathers from their service with the Division in both World War II and Vietnam. Her awards and decorations include: the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal (1OLC), Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Combat Action Badge, and Air Assault Badge.
