John Kelly Jr. was tragically killed early Sunday, Jan 13, on Floyd Rd. in Mableton GA, only about 1 mile from his house). He had recently returned from close to 4 years in the US Navy and was currently working as a ER Tech at Cobb Hospital in Austell GA.
John Jr. began playing Handball in the summer of 1996, with Atlanta Team Handball. John Jr. traveled with ATH on numerous trips through the years and clearly established himself as one of our top athletes.
In 1998 he was the youngest member of the USA World Youth Games Team in Moscow, Russia.
He soon made his way onto the Men's National Team, along the way he was named Nationals MVP in 2003, the year the ATH won Club Nationals. That summer he played at the 2003 Pan Am Games with the USA Men National Team, winning a Bronze Medal. John played well above his years at a early age and was always a superb example of sportsmanship.
John was 3 Star athlete at South Cobb High School, playing Football, Basketball and Track.
He went on to play Football at the University of the South, in Sewanee, Tenn.
John is survived by his mother Kim, sister Candyse and brother Austin. He will be missed by all of us who had an opportunity to know him.
