USA Team Handball announced today its intention to field the Junior Men's National Team (male players born in 1992 and younger) for the upcoming 2013 Pan American Championships in Mar del Plata, Argentina, tentatively scheduled for March 19-25, 2013. The PAC is a qualifying event for the Junior Men's World Championships scheduled by the IHF for July 14-28, 2013 in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
However, this is a self-funded competition opportunity and as such majority of expenses, including air travel to/from US based training camp and to/from Argentina as well as mandatory pre-event training camp will have to be paid by the participants, their parents, supporters, and/or sponsors. The total projected cost of the event is $50,000 and estimated cost per participant is at least $1200. Athletes and their parents are urged to fundraise individually and form “booster” type parental support group to aid in the effort to generate additional $30,000. All funds raised by such “booster” organization will be earmarked as restricted for Junior Men's National Team only. USATH will participate financially in supporting its nominated staff, covering PATHF official and surcharge fees, and other logistic costs. USATH will also reach out to the USATH Foundation for a matching grant to offset the cost of the event contingent on generating core funds by the "boosters." Final decision to compete or not will be made in early February and primarily based on monies available/pledged to pay for the program.
Competition dates are subject to change by PATHF and/or hosting Argentinean Federation.
In light of its 2013-2015 High Performance Plan, presented to the USOC last month, and in anticipation of official acceptance to the PAC event as well as maintaining continuity of future programming and competitions in this age/gender category, the USA Team Handball has announced search for the following intermediate term (2013-2014) part-time stipend staff positions:

Men’s Junior & Youth National Team First Assistant Coach
Men’s Junior & Youth National Team Second Assistant Coach
Men’s Junior & Youth National Team Leader
Qualified individuals interested in those positions should become familiar with the positions’ requirements, found here, and email the application to email@example.com no later than Friday, December 17, 2012. From the pool of applications received, the USATH MNT Advisory Committee will select and nominate coaches for the respective openings by December 28, 2012. The coaching appointees will be vested with selection of the 2013 Junior Men PAC Team and all other subsequent programming per term. Junior Men NT staff will be eligible for coaching, management, travel stipends per separate agreement.
All aspiring and age eligible athletes (must be members of USATH, US citizens with valid US passport) are encouraged to apply for consideration by sending email to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than Friday, December 21, 3012. There will be no formal regional tryouts for this event.
Players are responsible for having their coaches fill-out, sign, and submit the evaluation forms directly to email@example.com by the due date of 12/21/12. The selection committee, which composition has been described in the “Procedures”, will chose roster of 14 players and 4 alternates by January 31, 2013. Only athletes who made the team will be notified via email by the staff selected to run the program. The final roster with alternates will be posted on our website on or about February 2, 2013.
