London Olympics Handball Day 8
Iceland and Croatia top their groups, South Korea and Great Britain eliminated.
Must be the Olympic spirit that gets the small country of Iceland motivated when it comes to handball. In somewhat of a hibernating mode, Iceland has been a non-factor in international competition since their 2008 silver medal game in Beijing. Yet, on Saturday, Iceland defeated France 30:29 in a Group A contest. If you missed the game, you should watch the replay. One of the best handball games in recent history.
Also in Group A, Tunisia ousted Team GB from the competition with a 34:17 win. Tunisia will face Argentina on Monday to decide who moves on the quarterfinals. Argentina was trounced by Sweden 29:13, a game in which the Argentines only counted in the first 20 minutes. Argentina will need a win, whereas Tunisia can go through with a win or a tie.
The wear of the competition must be tearing down the 2012 European Champs. Denmark lost big to Croatia 32:21, in a game in which everything went Croatia's way. Croatia leads Group B with 8 points in 4 games. Undefeated and hands on favorite for a third Olympic gold medal, following their 1996 and 2004 success.
In the last contest of the day in Group B, Spain took down Hungary 33:22. This leaves Hungary and Serbia to fight it out for the last playoff spot of Group B. Hungary's only option is a win in a game scheduled for Monday.

Women are up next. Last games of the group stage where Angola is the only team with a mathematical chance at moving on to the quarterfinals. It will take a huge loss by Montenegro to Russia and a big win by Angola to Brasil. Neither which is likely. Here is the rest of today's schedule:
