We're Going to Mexico

Oct. 10, 2008, 12 a.m. (ET)
Still smarting after a disastrous 2007 campaign that left them at home for the Beijing Olympics, the USA Women's National Team's road to redemption winds through Mexico this November.  The team is headed to Mexico City for the PATHF Division I tournament, where the top two finishers will qualify for the Pan American Championships in 2009.

Up to six teams are expected to participate in the 5-day event, scheduled to begin Nov. 22.  The Division I tournament is for Pan Am nations that did not finish in the Top 6 in the 2007 Pan American Championships.  In that event, held in the Dominican Republic, the USA finished 7th - behind Brazil, Argentina, Dominican Republic, Paraguay, Uruguay and Canada.

In addition to the USA, nations that may participate in Mexico include host country, Cuba, Greenland, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and Chile.  The official invitation from PATHF is expected this coming week, with confirmations due to PATHF by October 31.

Coach and player selection processes will be announced this coming week.  The USA Women reunite for the first time since 2007 at the Chicago Inter Challenge, facing Army in their first match at 7:00pm on Friday, October. 17 at Northeastern Illinois University.
