USA Team Handball is accepting bids from organizations interested in hosting its two flagship events, the 2009 Club National Championships and 2009 Collegiate National Championships.
The Club National Championships were last held in Delaware in 2007, when NY Team Handball Club were victorious in the men's competition and Chicago Inter captured the number one spot for women. The 2009 Club Nationals feature an "open" format - with clubs of every level and experience welcome to compete.
In addition to Delaware, the three-day event has been played in recent years in Houston, Reno, Colorado Springs, Tampa and New York. The competition is scheduled for April 30-May 3.
The last Collegiate National Championships was held in West Point, NY in April 2008. The cadets from U.S. Military Academy (West Point) won the gold medal on the men's side, while the women from Cortland State University took the women's gold.
This year's Collegiate National Championships is slated to be held on one of the first two weekends in April.
"Hosting the signature events of USA Team Handball requires close collaboration of a host club, its community, chamber of commerce or convention / visitor's bureau and the national office of USA Team Handball," said Steve Pastorino, USA Team Handball general manager. "We look forward to receiving bids and choosing a great venue for our 2009 events."
The 2009 National Champion receives an automatic berth into the eight-team National Championship bracket for 2009-2010. Remaining berths in that event will be filled by the top club from each of the country's five regions, plus an additional berth for the host region. The eighth and final berth each year will be offered to the Collegiate National Champion.
Bids are due November 8, 2008 - with an announcement expected prior to the end of 2008. Organizations interested in receiving a bid packet should contact Lauren Harrington, public relations manager for USA Team Handball (mailto:lLauren@usateamhandball.org
