Women's national team lands in Mexico City, competes Saturday

Dave Gascon, team administrator for the women's national team, reported from Mexico City today on the travels of the USA Team Handball's squad.

With temperatures in the 20s and snow swirling around Chicago, the team departed on schedule from Chicago's O'Hare airport, leaving behind six days of workouts, practices and a valuable scrimmage with the Chicago Inter Handball Club. Flight 147 landed in Houston for a lunchtime layover, and about two hours later, the national team landed in Mexico City. After getting through customs, vans took the athletes and staff to the '68-built Olympic Training Center and Village. The first night was chilly, but the team awoke early Friday eager for the competition ahead.

USA Team Handball women's national team will play its first match Saturday at 4:30 p.m. against Chile. The team will also face its other two competitors for the PATHF I tournament, Mexico and Puerto Rico, Sunday through Tuesday.
