The USA Team Handball women's national team redeemed an October loss to the Chicago Inter women's squad last night with a 28 to 26 victory over the Midwest's premier handball club. The national team pool is in Chicago training before the PATHF Division I tournament this weekend.
"The team is very upbeat," said Dave Gascon, national team administrator. "There's been a noticeable cohesiveness on the court. They're looking better and better."
Some improvements include the team's tightened defense and a decrease in the number of turnovers. Additionally, Kathy Darling, Jennifer Farrell and Megan Ballard, all of whom play team handball professionally in France, returned to the United States to train in Chicago. The three were not at the Chicago Inter Challenge tournament in October.
Athletes from the national team pool arrived in Chicago on Nov. 14. The women have been practicing under the direction of interim coach Marko Brezic twice a day. Selections for the women's national team roster for the PATHF Division I tournament will be announced Nov. 19, with practices continuing until the team departs for Mexico.
