|USA Team Handball Goes 3-0 in First Competition of the 2006-07 Season Over the Weekend |
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The United States women's team handball squad opened up its 2006-07 season over the weekend going undefeated in all three of its matches.
Team USA ‘B' squad participated against three Northeast Team Handball Conference opponents and came away with three easy victories. In its first match Saturday, USA ‘B' had no problem against the Army Gold team winning 46-12. Megan Ballard (Atlanta, Ga.) was the only Team USA ‘B' player with double figure goals, as she collected 17. Jacque Messel (Mt. Pleasant, Iowa) recorded 10 saves in goal. The second match of the day featured a 38-13 victory over the Black squad from Army. Messel recorded 14 saves, while Jennifer Haubrich (Bow, N.H.) led the team in goals with seven.
Team USA ‘B' then faced Champlain Sunday, winning 26-11. Ballard led the team in goals for the second time in three games with eight, while goalie Erika Bohn (Rutland, Vt.) collected 12 saves. All three games were played in Cortland, N.Y.
The United States women's team handball will travel back to Cortland, N.Y. facing the Cortland squad in two matches on Nov. 4-5.
