Seeking U.S. Women to Play in Russia

July 30, 2008, 6:46 p.m. (ET)
USA Team Handball (USATH) has received an offer from a prominent Russian Elite Division handball club to host two female American players for the 2008-09 season.

The club is seeking two talented, young, athletic women to travel to Russia in late August and spend the season (approx. 9 months) training and playing with the club. Provided that the athlete is of sufficient fitness and ability, the club will give her opportunities to play in the Russian First Division and, potentially, in the Elite Division.

The club has offered room, board and the opportunity to study (at no cost to the athlete) at a local university. At this time, the club cannot pay for airline transportation between USA and Russia, nor a living stipend, but this may be negotiable. USA Team Handball may make a one-time grant available to help offset the expenses of this move

• Athlete must be born on/after August 1, 1983
• Athlete must have been member of the USA Women’s National Team residency program in Cortland, NY; or competed at USA Team Handball Club National Championships in the past four years.

Interested candidates should immediately contact Amir Haskic, technical director of USA Team Handball, at
