Men's national team athlete Gary Hines debuted for DJK Waldbuttelbrunn, scoring 12 goals against TSV Trudering Saturday. During his first match with the Bayerliga club, the Atlanta native made nine goals from the field and three goals from seven-meter throws. DJK Waldbuttelbrunn defeated TSV Trudering, 27-19. According to DJK Waldbuttelbrunn coach Gernot Kopitsch, hundreds of spectators were chanting "Gary! Gary!" by the end of the match. Hines traveled to southern Germany last week after signing a contact with the club.

The 24-year old backcourt and wing played for Atlanta Team Handball in the United States, but also competed professionally in Spain two years ago. A men's national team staple, Hines represented the U.S. when it took bronze at the 2003 Pan American Games.

USA Team Handball wishes Hines continued success and will post updates on his progress in Europe.
