Jan. 07, 2014, 6:36 p.m. (ET)

Five hundred twenty-one athletes head to Colorado Springs, Colo., this week for the five-day 2014 USAT National Team Trials, which run Jan. 10-14 at the U.S. Olympic Training Complex Sport Center I. For the first time, USA Taekwondo will host four separate Team Trials at one event—Senior National Team, Youth Olympic Games Team, Junior National Team and Cadet National Team—which will set rosters for the 2014 Pan American Championships, Youth Olympic Games qualification tournament, Junior World Championships and Cadet World Championships.

“The 2014 USA Taekwondo National Team Trials marks the first time that our organization has conducted multiple Team Trials over one period of time,” said USA Taekwondo CEO Bruce Harris. “Winners will make up our respective teams, and each of these groups of athletes will have a World-level competition to look forward to participating in this year. While recognizing the sacrifices and hard work that goes into preparing for a Team Trials event, I am also excited for all of the athletes, parents and coaches who are making such an exciting event possible in Colorado Springs. I offer my sincere wishes for success in their respective competitions.”

Kicking off 2014
Following a successful 2013 campaign that saw U.S. dominance at the Junior Pan American Open and Championships, a silver medal at the World Combat Games, the first Grand Prix Final and many senior athletes establish themselves in the World Ranks, the 2014 USAT National Team Trials is the launching point for what promises to be an eventful year. In addition to the aforementioned World events in which the four teams will compete, USA Taekwondo looks forward to the continued success of its athletes at various international competitions throughout the year.

Spectators 13 and older may purchase Team Trials tickets at the door for $10. Children 12 and younger will be admitted for free.
