USA Taekwondo National Team Coach hiring process update

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.-- On Wednesday, March 20, 2013, the USA Taekwondo National Team Coach Search Committee conducted in-person interviews of the final candidates for the National Team Coach position. Each of the final National Team Coach candidates made a prepared presentation before the Search Committee and then answered questions, followed by closing statements. Each candidate had a 90-minute period for their presentation and the Q&A period.

As Interim CEO of USA Taekwondo, I was very impressed with the passion that each candidate brought to his interview. Also impressive was the amount of thought that each candidate put into preparing for the opportunity to lead USA Taekwondo athletes and coaches to the awards podium as we move forward. Many refreshing ideas were shared with the Search Committee, all with the intent of improving the medal performance of USA Taekwondo athletes, both short-term and long-term. It is my sincere hope that those who are not selected as National Team Coach will honor their stated commitment to "do whatever is best for our USA Taekwondo athletes" by remaining actively involved in the development of our USA Taekwondo athletes. Only one person will become the National Team Coach, but all other coaches that took part in the process can offer much-needed assistance to the National Team Coach and to our athletes so that our Athlete Development Program will get stronger and, in return, our athletes will achieve greater medal successes.

On Friday, March 22, 2013, the Search Committee will submit their final recommendations for National Team Coach to the Interim CEO. In turn, I, the Interim CEO, will weigh the recommendations and will announce my hiring decision of the National Team Coach on Monday, March 25, 2013.
