USA Taekwondo to demonstrate electronic body protector equipment

March 06, 2013, 2:11 p.m. (ET)

On Friday, March 15, USAT will conduct a public demonstration of the Daedo Protective Scoring System (PSS) and the newly WTF-approved KP&P Protective Scoring System. This demonstration will take place at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., at 2 p.m. MDT. The demonstration is open to the public.

The purpose of this demonstration is for the public to able to see both Protective Scoring Systems in action with competitors who will use both systems. USAT is aware that there is much concern about USA Taekwondo switching from Daedo to KP&P at a time when most athletes, coaches and school owners are invested in the Daedo Protective System. This demonstration will allow the opportunity to evaluate the merits of both systems in a side-by-side comparison. The demonstration will also allow USAT to give informed opinions to the World Taekwondo Federation regarding both Protective Scoring Systems.

The WTF, the international governing body for Olympic Taekwondo, will be making a decision on which Protective Scoring System will be used at the 2013 World Taekwondo Championships. The WTF will also decide which Protective Scoring System will be in use at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Once the decision has been made as to which system will be used in Rio in 2016, USA Taekwondo will, of course, use that Protective Scoring System exclusively at all of its national competitions, including Team Trials.
