Gerick to replace English on 2013 Senior National Team

April 12, 2013, 6:26 p.m. (ET)

Senior National Team fin weight member Gregory English (Chicago, Ill.) today announced his resignation from the team citing personal reasons. His forfeited slot on the 2013 Senior National Team is awarded to two-time Junior National and 2012 Junior World Championships Team member Logan Gerick (Keller, Texas), who finished second behind English at the 2013 USAT National Team Trials in January. As a 2013 Senior National Team member, Gerick will compete as the male fin weight at the Spanish Open in May and World Championships in July.

“USA Taekwondo appreciates Greg’s dedication and passion for the sport of taekwondo and in representing his country. We are saddened to see him depart from our National Team,” said USAT interim CEO Bruce Harris. “We are fortunate, however, to have a talented young man like Logan, who is willing to step into the vacated slot. We are confident that the transition will be smooth for men’s fin weight and look forward to continuing a strong year of international competition.”

English made two Junior National Teams (2009 and 2011) and won a Youth Olympic Games bronze medal (2010) prior to earning his first Senior National Team bid this year.
