COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Dec. 9, 2012 – Team USA collected eight medals to take third in the medal count at the 2012 WTF World Poomsae Taekwondo Championships in Tunja, Colombia. Earning two gold, one silver and three bronze at the four-day competition, the U.S. also took gold in the first ever WTF Freestyle video contest and silver in the Most Improved Award.

Noreen Thackery (Fresno, Calif.) and duo Jason Hwang (Alta Loma, Calif.) and Claire Kim (Huntington Beach, Calif) led things off on Dec. 6 with gold medals in the 3rd master and 2nd pair divisions, respectively.

On Dec. 7 Kristi George (Indianapolis, Ind.) took silver in 2nd Master, while bronze-medal efforts were displayed by Akiko Reyes (Aiea, Hawaii) in 1st Master and Amber Rodriguez (Reseda, Calif.) in Senior Women’s Freestyle.

Following a medal-free day on Dec. 8, the U.S. wrapped up the weekend Dec. 9 with a bronze medal in Team Freestyle led by Hazel Cruz (Hayward, Calif.), Kody Han (Rosemead, Calif.), Anh Nguyen (San Jose, Calif.), Long Nguyen (San Jose, Calif.) and Rodriguez.

Korea topped the medal chart, followed by Iran and the U.S.
