Field Testing Opportunity at the Junior Olympics and Senior Nationals

June 24, 2009, 1:39 p.m. (ET)

USA Taekwondo is eager to be offering field tests at the upcoming Junior Olympics and U.S. National Taekwondo Championships in Austin, Texas!  Field testing is a method for Taekwondo athletes to assess their level of athletic attributes without requiring expensive equipment.  Field testing is a similar concept to the combine utilized by the National Football League (NFL).

The information gleaned from field testing will allow athletes to track their progress as they develop the athletic attributes in these defined areas.  The ultimate goal is to establish normative data per age group for Taekwondo athletes.

Participation in field testing this year is FREE, therefore, do not miss this opportunity to find out where you stand with various aspects of athletic attributes, such as reaction time, balance, speed, and power!  The following information consists of the dates and times that are available to participate in this exciting event:

  • Wednesday, July 1st from 12:00 noon - 4:00 p.m.
  • Friday, July 3rd from 12:00 noon - 4:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, July 5th from 12:00 noon - 4:00 p.m.

Field testing will be located by the holding area within the competition venue.  In order to participate, athletes will only need to sign up for a designated time at the field testing site, then report back at the given time.  Please be sure to be warmed up and ready to test at your designated time.

It is recommended for athletes who are interested in field testing to be familiar with the tests that will be administered and even practice before arriving into Austin, if possible.  To get the most out of the testing experience, please click this LINK for a copy of the description and procedures of each test.
