U.S. wins eight medals at Maccabiah Games

USA Taekwondo members brought home eight medals from the 2009 Maccabiah Games in Israel, which concluded on July 23. The Games, sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee and the World Federation of Sports, are an international event for Jewish athletes held every four years.

All eight U.S. team members reached the medal podium, winning one gold, three silver and four bronze medals. Alyssa Rosenberg (Coral Springs, Fla.) won the gold medal, silver medalists were Breanna Bordon (Las Vegas, Nev.), Tasha Pruter (Blue Springs, Mo.) and Marc Gitelman (Las Vegas, Nev.), and bronze medals were won by Laura Spero (New York, N.Y.), Jacquelyne Cutler (Overland Park, Kan.), Amanda Romeu (Miramar, Fla.) and Brett Appelman (Naperville, Ill.).

"I am very proud of all of them," said coach/athlete Marc Gitelman. "We did our best and had a great time representing the USA at these Games."
