American-style taekwondo will be well represented at the 2009 U.S. Open taking place Feb. 12-15 at the Tropicana in Las Vegas, Nev.
2008 Olympian Charlotte Craig headlines the list of U.S. Senior Team members taking part in the international competition. Craig is joined by fellow 2007 Senior National Team members Brian Gallagher, Luis Reyes, Dalia Avivi and Eleni Koutsilianos, as well as 2006 Senior Team member Lauren Cahoon.
In addition, 15 members of the 2008 U.S. Junior National Team will be in action in both the junior and senior divisions. They include 2008 Junior World silver medalist Christian Suh and bronze medalist Olie Burton, as well as fellow team members Jaysen Ishida, Jeffery Williams, Thomas Lee, Adrienne Ivey, Shaina Krause, Tyler Sawyer, Jeffery Grahovec, Talina Le, Laurissa Tanielu, Kiana Lo, Emilia Morrow, Nicole Palma, and John Hansel.
Another seven members of the 2008 Junior World Team, who were not on the Junor National Team, will also take part. They include Junior World bronze medalist Merissa Pico along with Tyler Knittel-McDavid, Jared Schneider, Jericho Yabut, Victoria Stambaugh, Jensen Ishida and Aaron Porras.
Past Junior National Team members in the competition include 2007 members Amber Means, Jade Lopez, Maia Eubanks and Kristen Frisch; 2006 members Christina Johnson, Jermaine James and Cheryl Krause; and 2005 Junior Team member Andrew Oh.
The international field includes 2008 Olympic silver medalist Yulis Gabriel Mercedes of the Dominican Republic as well as 2008 Canadian Olympian Sebastien Michaud.
