Be a Part of the First-Ever U-24 U.S. National Team

Aug. 08, 2009, 2 p.m. (ET)

History will be made on August 21 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs as USA Taekwondo conducts a trials event for the first-ever U-24 National Team. The team will consist of 16 athletes (8 men and 8 women).

"We see this as the ideal stepping stone for those athletes who have been successful at the Junior level and are making the transition to the Senior level," said U.S. National Team Coach Juan Moreno. "The experience the athletes will gain by competing for a spot on the U-24 National Team will be invaluable to their growth and development as well as the growth and development of Taekwondo athletes in the country as a whole."

The U-24 National Team selected in Colorado Springs will have the opportunity to participate in an all-expense paid international training exchange with distinguished clubs in Korea this November.

"I am looking forward to taking the inaugural U-24 National Team to Korea, as it has been quite some time since the U.S. has visited Korea for training," added U.S. National Team Coach Jean Lopez. "We will be embarking on a great adventure whereby a new National Team will be training at the place where the sport was introduced to the world, making this event significant on many different levels. I see this as a great opportunity for our country and its athletes, with the U-24 National Team being the perfect group to bring."

All athletes who are between the ages of 18 - 23 during the 2009 calendar year are eligible to participate. For more details, please visit the U-24 Team Trials page:
