USA Taekwondo is pleased to announce the appointment of two U.S. representatives to important committees within the World Taekwondo Federation.
Herb Perez (Foster City, Calif.), a 1992 Olympic gold medalist in taekwondo, has been named chairman of the WTF Education Committee, and Leon Preston (Seattle, Wash.), an international referee who served at the recent Olympic Games in Beijing, was named vice-chair of the WTF Referee Committee in charge of education and training.
"There were many qualified candidates from around the world," said Perez. "I am honored to have been considered and selected for this auspicious post. I look forward to serving our sport around the world."
Additionally, Perez will serve as vice chairman and spokesperson for the WTF Technical Committee which is responsible for all competition matters at the Olympic Games. This committee is tasked for revising the current competition rules for the next Olympic Games, the first Games to utilize electronic chest protectors.
"This will change the face of our sport forever," added Perez. "I am proud to be part of this process."
