Dure Chang Wins Bronze on Final Day of World Poomsae Championships
Dure Chang (Anchorage, Alaska) won a bronze medal in the Female 1st Master division on Thursday as the 3rd WTF World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships came to a close in Ankara, Turkey.
Chang's medal gave the U.S. squad its second bronze medal of the competition. The Female 2nd Team of Barbara Brand (Fremont, Calif.), Tara Zielinski (Sacramento, Calif.) and Anacleta Thorne (Elk Grove, Calif.) captured the first bronze medal on Wednesday.
In the Male 1st Team divison on Thursday, Henry Darnell (Lawndale, Calif.) withdrew due to injury and was replaced by Muhammad Chishti (Carlsbad, Calif.). The team of Chishti, Jason Hwang (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) and Matthew Dunlap (Hermiston, Ore.) did not advance to the final selection round but finished in the top 15 overall.
In the Female 1st Team competition, Madison Motoyasu (Santa Clarita, Calif.), Mariel Calinog (Granada Hills, Calif.) and Maisey Calinog (Granada Hills, Calif.) narrowly missed final selection and finished in the top 10.
Male 2nd Senior Jim Null (Banks, Ore.) advanced to the semi-final round and finished 14th overall, and Female 2nd Senior Aline Salzberg (Chatsworth, Calif.) also advanced to the semifinals of her division.
Also on Thursday, the WTF named Raymond Hsu (San Antonio, Texas) as Outstanding Referee for the World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships. USA Taekwondo congratulates Mr. Hsu for this honor, which further enhances the image of our U.S. Taekwondo Poomsae program.
