U.S. Wins Bronze on 2nd Day of World Poomsae Championships
The U.S. Poomsae Team claimed its first medal at the 3rd WTF World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in Ankara, Turkey, on Wednesday.
The 2nd Female Team of Barbara Brand (Fremont, Calif.), Tara Zielinski (Sacramento, Calif.) and Anacleta Thorne (Elk Grove, Calif.) captured the bronze medal, equalling the performance from last year's 2nd Female Team at the 2007 world championships.
Other U.S. finishes on Wednesday included Noreen Thackrey (Fresno, Calif.) placing 5th in the 2nd Master Female division, Reggie Ubiadas (Simi Valley, Calif.) finishing 7th in the 2nd Master Male division, the 2nd Male Team of David Turgeon (Amston, Conn.), Ron Southwick (Fort Worth, Texas) and Garth Cooley (Indianapolis, Ind.) also placing 7th, and the 1st Pair Team of Muhammad Chishti (Carlsbad, Calif.) & Lilian Angel (Orange, Calif.) eliminated in the semi-final round and finishing 12th.
Chishti also advanced to the semi-final round of the 1st Senior Male division before being eliminated and finishing in 20th place. In the 1st Senior Female competition, Kimberly Fritzsche (Owosso, Mich.) was eliminated in the first round.
