In addition to the 4 top seeds profiled in “Eugene Wang, Mingyu Shi, Kewei Li, and New Comer Ruichao Chen Lead the Standings for Cary Cup” and the international players highlighted in “2014 Butterfly Cary Cup an International Event”, many other players are worthy of attention at this weekend’s Cary Cup tournament.

Qingliang Wang (2573), 2012 U.S. Open Men’s semifinalist and current coach at Maryland Table Tennis Center, is seeded 7th at Cary Cup. Qingliang is hoping to improve on his 9th place finish in last year’s event. With his modern defensive style, and experience as both a high level player and coach, he will be real threat to the other top competitors.

Jiaqi Zheng (2571), 2012 Cary Cup 5th place finisher, is the highest rated female player in the competition. Ranked as high as 81 in the world, Jiaqi has played in large tournaments all over the United States and internationally. Watch out for her unique pen-hold style with short pips on the forehand, and inverted on the backhand (with reverse pen-hold backhand).

Lastly, Lindenwood University, who was very present at the 2014 Butterfly Aurora Cup, will be bringing its high level team to Cary Cup. Felipe Morita (2372), Micaiah Skolnick (2368), Ahmed Hendawi (2323), Gabriel Skolnick (2292) and Austin Preiss (2258) will be leading the Lindenwood team in the main event. Having participated in no less than 6 tournaments already in 2014, the Lindenwood team comes to Cary Cup with a wealth of competition experience.

Many other top players from the US, including top juniors and collegiate players will also be vying for the top spot this weekend. Only after the athletes compete in many tough and interesting matches, will a new Cary Cup champion be named.
