USATT will nominate Ariel and Tim for the USOC Athletes of the Month for August.

Ariel Hsing

Ariel Hsing (San Jose, Calif.) garnered the women's and junior girls' singles titles at the 2013 North American Championships, held Aug. 25-27 in in Vancouver, British Columbia. After losing on opening day to Canadian No. 1 Mo Zhang in team competition, Hsing earned a 4-0 final victory over Zhang in singles play.  

In junior action, she defeated fellow 2012 Olympian teammate Erica Wu (Arcadia, Calif.) for the title. Hsing also provided a key win for the U.S. junior girls to defeat Canada, 3-0, in team play. 

Following this performance, Hsing won the silver medal at the 2013 Canada Junior & Cadet Open in junior girls’ singles.

Timothy WangTimothy Wang (Houston, Texas) spearheaded Team USA’s defeat of Canada at the 2013 North American Championships, held Aug. 25-27 in Vancouver, British Columbia. In his opening singles match, Wang swept the final three games against Pierre-Luc Theriault, sparking momentum for the U.S. in singles and doubles. 

He then defeated James Pintea, 4-0, in the quarterfinals before losing a hard-fought semifinals bout to U.S. Open champion and eventual winner Eugene Wang, 4-1.

Honorable Mentions

Kunal ChodriUS Boys' Cadet Coach Keith Evans singled out Kunal Chodri for his outstanding performance in Canada in both the 2013 North American Championships and 2013 Canada Junior & Cadet Open in Vancouver, CA.  

Kunal helped the US Men defeat Canada 3-0 winning both his singles and doubles with Theodore Tran. Additionally Chodri won two singles matches in the US Junior Boys victory over Canada 3-1.  

Kunal was also a finalist in Boys' Cadet Singles at the 2013 Canada Junior and Cadet Open.    


   


Nolan Weber The entire US Para Coaching staff of Stellan Bengtsson, Angie Bengtsson, Keith Evans, and Para Manager Jasna Rather nominated Nolan Weber for honorable mention for the month of August.  Nolan's courage and determination is a shining example for all players to admire and emulate.  

The US Para Team looks forward to Nolan's continued success and progress in the sport.
