As we approach this holiday season and find ourselves giving thanks for so many blessings, it is important to remember those families in the Philippines that recently were devastated by Typhoon Haiyan (also known as Yolanda). This natural disaster claimed the lives of over 5,235 people so far with over 1,600 still missing and over 23,000 injured.
In addition to the lives lost and injured, the amount of property damage – homes destroyed, businesses, and in some cases entire towns have been demolished and completely removed from the landscape. One of so many examples is the easterly Town of Guiuan, in the Samar province - population 40,000 - is said to be largely destroyed. Unfortunately, this is but one of many such examples. The cost of this damage is largely unknown but is estimated to be in the billions, and yet even now weeks after the disaster, people are in dire need of food, shelter, and medicine.
While we enjoy our Thanksgiving turkey and Christmas feasts we should feel compelled to do something significant for the people of the Philippines who have very little prior to a natural disaster and certainly afterward, are lucky to have their lives or a place to sleep.
That is why USATT has decided to team up with the Philippine Nurses Association of America (PNAA). This group is not just collecting money for immediate relief efforts, but they are implementing aid in the Philippines as well to those that need it. PNAA is a 501c 3 non-profit organization and your donation may be considered tax deductible*. Because of the magnitude of the devastation relief efforts will be ongoing for some time, but the USATT giving campaign for our membership is open now through the end of this January 2014.
To make your donation contact Iris Fermantez or call 855-770-6304 and tell them you are wishing to donate on behalf of USATT for the victims from typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines. The website for the PNAA is http://mypnaa.org.
If any of your member wants to donate by check. Please pay to PNAAF (tax deductible donation*) and mail to:

I beseech all of you reading this to make some contribution – some donation no matter the amount, that is desperately needed now in this country that has been hit so very hard. If you can imagine going without clothes, food, shelter and basic medicine abruptly and loosing everything, this is the reality for thousands in the central Philippines. Please consider opening your heart and giving what you can right now to those needing help the most.
