2013 Para Pan Am Championship Selection Procedures
Location: San Jose, Costa Rica
Date: 9-16 December, 2013
Para National Team Coaches: Angie Bengtsson and Keith Evans
USATT will be entering 2 players per class, and if each class at Para Pan American Championship has its own event, then additional 1 player per class could be entered (when 2 classes are combined, only 4 players per country could play in 2 classes combined, which eliminates possibility for 3rd player per class to be entered).
Criteria 1: 2013 US Para National Team Members will get direct spots for 2013 Para Pan American Championship. Only 2013 US Para National Team Members will get funding from USATT toward 2013 Para Pan American Championship expenses.
After entering 2013 Para NT members to 2013 Para Pan American Championship, these classes will have one less spot: Men’s Classes 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10; Women’s Classes 3 & 7.
Criteria 2: After filling spots with 2013 US Para National Team Members, the next direct spots will go to 2013 US Junior Para National Team Members. All athletes entered by the USATT under criteria 2 will need to self-fund Para Pan American Championship.
Criteria 3: Remaining spots will be filled by athletes from classes 1-11 with highest percentage using the Paralympic Competitive Analysis Criteria. All athletes entered by the USATT under criteria 3 will need to self-fund Para Pan American Championship.
Paralympic Competitive Analysis Criteria (Click here): Based on the number of athletes that have qualified from criteria 1, the remaining team members will qualify on a competitive level equation within each of their classes. To determine the level of Paralympic competitiveness, the player should divide their current ITTF rating points (June 1, 2013) by that of the #1 rated player in their class to get a percentage. The athletes with the highest percentage will be placed on the team in their rank order.
Each Athlete who will represent the US in the 2013 Para Pan American Championship must:
- Have a current classification card issued by ITTF,
- Be a US Citizen & a current member in good standing of USA Table Tennis
- Have participated in at least one (1) ITTF Para Event after 1/1/2012.
