COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Beginning February 9 at Bond Park Community Center in Cary, North Carolina, the top American men and women table tennis players will begin the process to earn the right to compete in the 2012 London Olympic Games. Ticket prices start at just $5 and may be purchased online at www.cary2012.com
or at the Cary Arts Center Box Office. If any tickets are left at the start of competition, tickets will also be available on site at Bond Park Community Center. The competition will be streamed live by NBC Universal Sports and will run through February 12.
The tournament consists of two stages: the one-day open qualifying tournament that starts on February 9 at 9 a.m. and the final twelve-player men and women round robins that will be February 10-12. The top ten men and top ten women as ranked by USA Table Tennis have been seeded directly into the final round robins. The qualifying tournament will feature thirty-two men and three women fighting for the final two spots in each group.
The open qualifying tournament is guaranteed to be exciting as the players will include Khoa Nguyen, San Jose, CA, 2000 & 2004 US Olympian; Dan Seemiller, South Bend, IN, five-time US Singles Champion & two-time US Olympic Coach, Scott Butler, Advance, NC, Pan Am Team member; several former National Champions and National Team members of all ages; and local player Gregg Robertshaw from Raleigh, NC.
The top four male and top four female finishers will qualify to represent the US in the 2012 North America Olympic Games Qualifying Tournament to held in Cary, NC, on April 20-22 where they will compete against the Canadian qualifiers to see who will get to go to the Olympics.
