Crystal Huang Loses in First Round, 2-4
(Beijing, China) - After placing fifth in the team competition last week, Crystal Huang (San Gabriel, Calif.) was eliminated after the first round of competition in the singles division on Monday at the Peking University Gymnasium.
Huang started the match well, dominating the first game with a seven-point lead before winning the first game against Fen Yang (CGO), 11-4.
The next two games were closer with the players splitting them, 8-11 and 11-9.
After the third game loss, Yang controlled the fourth, winning 11-5 and tying the score at two games each.
In the pivotal fifth game, Huang had the lead, but Yang forced three game points before winning 11-13. Huang looked poised for a comeback late in the sixth game, but lost a close one, 9-11.
"I played ok, but receiving serve was a major problem for me," Huang said after the match. "Next time I play her I'll get a second chance."
Huang went on to say that she didn't attribute the loss to the increased pressure of playing at the Olympic Games.
"I was not really nervous, just the concentration was not there," she said.
