Cary, N.C – For the third time in 2012, Cary, North Carolina’s Bond Park Community Center will play host to a major continental Table Tennis event. The North American Championships are scheduled to be held August 31 – September 2, and will feature the top players in the hemisphere.
The event is open to players from the United States, Canada, Bermuda, and Greenland. Continental champions will be determined in men’s and women’s events. Additionally, a Junior team event will determine entries into Junior Worlds and a Cadet boys and girls event will determine selections for the World Cadet Challenge. Pending the number of entries, competition will be a round robin format followed by a single elimination bracket.
“USA Table Tennis’s confidence in Cary as a major event host has been proven with their willingness to bring a third event to the Town in a calendar year,” said Hill Carrow, CEO of the Triangle Sports Commission. “The Town of Cary, the Greater Raleigh Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Triangle Sports Commission, and the Cary Table Tennis Association are excited to once again welcome the continent’s top table tennis athletes to Cary.”
“Cary has proven itself as an excellent host after an outstanding job with the Olympic Trials earlier this year,” said Mike Cavanaugh, CEO of USA Table Tennis. “Our familiarity with the venue and staff, along with great fan support, makes it an easy decision to bring the North American Championships to Cary this September.”
