April 2014 President's Message

April 24, 2014, 9:23 a.m. (ET)

Dear Members,

What a busy two months we have had!  Our Collegiate Championships were so exciting with the top three teams being within one-tenth of one another – wow!! Congratulations to Lori Eaton, staff and swimmers for leading Lindenwood to its first Collegiate Championship.  I want to extend a big thank you to the Cincinnati Synchrogator Parents Club for a job well done by its outstanding volunteers in running such an efficient meet.  Thanks also to Terry  Shannon of Miami University for her untiring efforts and assistance with the championships.

For the first time ever our National Championships featured a 13-15 division.  It was exciting to see so many good young swimmers at this event.  Our Juniors showed both growth in numbers and quality. Although the Seniors were small in numbers, the competition was keen.

Congratulations to the Ohio State Buckeyes winning the High Point Award for the Senior Division and Holly Vargo-Brown for the Senior Coach of the Year.  We are use to the Head Coach of a club being named the Coach of the Year when their club wins a given division. I must apologize to Kimmie Robrock who should have been announced the Junior Coach of the Year, as she leads the Junior Program at Santa Clara.  I mistakenly had Chris Carver’s name announced.

We had a chance to see demonstrations by our Junior National Team and Duet.  It was obvious that they have been working hard on their technical skills, and we look forward to great things from this very talented group of young swimmers.

Many thanks to our duet of Jeanne Struck and Candy Kaemerer for the fine job they did running our National Championships.  They were assisted by members of all of the clubs in the Arizona Association.  Thank you for a job well done.

Everyone is eagerly awaiting the Age Group Championships in Federal Way, Washington in June and July.  This meet, in addition to being the largest meet in the world, is exciting as we see many new faces and our future champions.

Many positive things are happening in our organization.  Kevin is leading our staff and doing some reorganization within the staff.  We have some exciting announcements on the horizon; so check the website frequently to stay informed!

I would be remiss if I did not take this opportunity to thank all of the national judges and officials for their hard work at our championships.  We couldn’t do it without you.  You put in many long hours serving our athletes, so on behalf of the athletes and their coaches – THANK YOU!!

See you in Federal Way,
