November 2013 President's Update

Nov. 20, 2013, 12:03 p.m. (ET)

Education has been the focus of our activities this month, and what a month it has been!  USA Synchro joined with the USOC and the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) to host a PASO Coaching Seminar.  Running concurrently were USA Synchro’s Annual Coaches’ College and the Zone All Star Camps.  The Coaches' College, as always, is presented by eSynchro and with the generous support of the Foundation, a maximum number of coaches were able to attend.

The seminar /coaches college was videoed and translated into Spanish and will be available online in about three months. Sixteen countries were represented and 59 athletes participated making it possible for participants to view first hand the training techniques of the athletes.

Myriam Glez, High Performance Director, and Kevin Warner, Chief Operating Officer, did an outstanding job organizing the event.  Myriam had an outstanding international staff of clinicians.  They were:  Sheilah Croxon (CAN),  Fred Pasqualin (FRA), and from the USA Dr. Eric Goodman, Sue Nesbitt, Sara Lowe, Megan Azebu, and of course Myriam.

This past weekend the Judges College was held.  Linda Loehndorf, and Shari Darst  spent countless hours preparing the curriculum for this event and for the updates that will be held around the country.  Ginny Jasontek prepared and tutored us with original materials that will be used to train judges around the world.

Thirty-five national judges participated in the Judges’ College, and participants  were able to build consensus regarding the new rules, as they affect judging.  Well done ladies.  Many thanks to Shannon Korpela for her continued guidance of our division of education.

Next week all of us will be celebrating Thanksgiving.  Let’s take time to give thanks for the wonderful country we live in and for the opportunities we have to work with our athletes and each other. Last, but not least, let us also give thanks for our families and friends without whose love and support we would not be able to make the contributions we do to our beautiful sport and the outstanding young girls and women we produce.

Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving,
