The Ohio State Wins 28th Overall Collegiate Synchronized Swimming Championship Title

INDIANAPOLIS The Ohio State University won two of four finals events Saturday to claim its 28th Overall Team Trophy at the 2012 U.S. Collegiate Synchronized Swimming Championships in Gainesville, Fla. 

OSU finished with 93 points, just ahead of University of the Incarnate Word (88 points). Lindenwood University was third (68.5). 

OSU’s Yuliya Maryanko won the Individual High Point Trophy at the Championships, which were held at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center Natatorium on the campus of the University of Florida. 

Maryanko won gold in solo with 89.133 points. Incarnate Word (UIW) took the next two spots, with Saki Fujise second (88.750) and Inga Gillyer third (87.650). 

In the duet, UIW’s Fujise and Gillyer won with 88.533 points. OSU’s Maryanko and Paige Ramsey were second (87.933), and Lindenwood’s Reem Abdalazem and Anouk Eman finished third (86.300). 

OSU also won trio, with Maryanko, Ramsey and Alexandra Beckett earning gold with 87.4167 points. UIW’s Fujise, Brianna Andreychuk and Rosilyn Tegart finished second (87.1833), and a second OSU trio of Java Nikbacht, Lauren Robinson and Khadija Zanotto was third (86.650). 

UIW won the team free Saturday with 89.8667 points. OSU’s two teams took second (89.850) and third (87.200). 

The championships are an open-class meet, combining competition from NCAA Divisions I, II and III and NAIA colleges and universities.
