Team USA Heads to Rio for Brazil Open

INDIANAPOLIS – USA Synchro will swim into action this week at the first-ever Brazil Open, held in Rio de Janeiro at the Julio de Lamare Aquatic Centre. The United States will be represented in the duet by Mary Killman (McKinney, Texas) and Lyssa Wallace (San Antonio, Texas). Killman will also represent the United States in the solo event.

Rio hosted the 2007 Pan American Games, where the United State swept the duet and team competitions and earned Olympic berths for the 2008 Olympic Games. The following is a schedule of events for the 2011 Brazil Open:
Friday, June 3: Solo Tech, Duet Tech
Saturday, June 4: Team Tech, Solo Free
Sunday, June 5: Duet Free, Team Free

The 2011 National Team is coached by Mayuko “Mayu” Fujiki. Fujiki competed for Japan and earned a bronze medal at the 1996 Olympic Games. Fujiki served on the coaching staffs of Italy, Australia, Japan, Greece, Hungary and most recently Spain, where she led the 2010 Spanish National Team to an overall Gold Medal finish to top synchro-powerhouse Russia at the FINA World Trophy.

The 2011 National Synchronized Swimming Team will also represent the United States at the 14th FINA World Aquatics Championships later this year. The elite international competition, which features all four aquatics sports, will take place July 16-31 in Shanghai, China.
