Team USA Heads to German Open

INDIANAPOLIS – USA Synchro will send three athletes into action this week in Bonn, Germany, at the 2011 German Open. Team USA will be represented in the duet competition by Megan Hansley (New Canaan, Conn.), Mary Killman (McKinney, Texas) and Lyssa Wallace (San Antonio, Texas). The event will run March 9–14 in Bonn, Germany, and marks the first competition to showcase members of the 2011 National Synchronized Swimming Team.

Killman and Wallace will participate in the duet tech competition on March 11. Hansley will join Killman in the duet free, also contended March 11. The duet free routine finals will take place March 13.

The 2011 National Team is coached by Mayuko “Mayu” Fujiki. Fujiki, who competed for Japan, earned a bronze medal at the 1996 Olympic Games. Fujiki has served on the coaching staffs of Italy, Australia, Japan, Greece, Hungary. Her most recent coaching stint was with Spain. She led the 2010 Spanish National Team to an overall gold-medal finish at the FINA World Trophy, where they topped synchro powerhouse Russia.

The 2011 National Synchronized Swimming Team will also represent the United States at the 14th FINA World Aquatics Championships later this year. The elite international competition, which features all four aquatics sports, will take place July 16-31, in Shanghai.
