Team USA Takes Fourth at Barcelona TrophyINDIANAPOLIS – USA Synchro kicked off the 2011 Barcelona Trophy with a second-place finish in the duet tech. Mary Killman (McKinney, Texas) and Lyssa Wallace (San Antonio, Texas) paired up to score a 90.6898 behind Spain, which posted a 95.5498. Japan (90.6717) and France (90.6510) followed in third and fourth places.
In the solo tech, Killman swam an 89.7518, finishing in fourth place. Spain’s Andrea Fuentes (95.6256) finished on top of the competition followed by Japan’s Adachi Yumi (92.9926) and Great Britain’s Jenna Randall (89.9603).
In the team-free final, Team USA grabbed fourth place with an 89.6800. Spain (96.8500), Japan (93.3000) and France (90.5200) all finished in the podium-positions.
The event was hosted by the Spanish Swimming Federation from June 17-19. The
competition served as a warm-up for Team USA leading up to the 14th FINA World Aquatics
Championships, to be held July 16-31 in Shanghai, China.
The 2011 National Team is coached by Mayuko Fujiki. Fujiki competed for the Japanese National Team and earned a bronze medal at the 1996 Olympic Games. Fujiki has served on the coaching staffs of Italy, Australia, Japan, Greece, Hungary and most recently Spain, where she led the 2010 Spanish National Team to an overall gold-medal finish to beat powerhouse Russia at the FINA World Trophy.
